Update September 11th 2024
Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well. I’m currently in Newcastle, Northern Ireland getting ready to go in the Irish Open this week being played at Royal County Down. The course is going to be a great test with high winds expected and the course already playing very firm and fast. This event is definitely a bonus to be playing in. I didn’t think I would get in the field this week so I’m excited to get going.
The past few weeks have been difficult, I was playing well in Denmark and was T7 going into the final round but a poor middle portion of my round and a poor finish led me to signing for a 5-over final round and a T42 finish, not what I was looking for. I missed the other 4 cuts out of the 5 weeks. It would be easy for me to sit here and make up some kind of story as to why my. game has been off but I’m just not really sure. Physically, I’m not striking the ball very well and have been dealing with a lot of mishits and average golf shots, I have just not been hitting enough quality iron shots during my rounds to put myself in position to play consistent golf.
Mentally it has also been very challenging. When you’re playing poorly it’s easy to let things spiral and you can dig yourself a deeper and deeper hole with negative self-talk, trying to ‘find’ something on the range, which can lead to hitting far too many golf balls and then in turn wearing out your body physically. I struggle to find the balance between ‘enough’ work and making sure I’m resting as well so I can perform my best but I’m always working on this.
I will hopefully have a couple more opportunities on the DP World Tour and a couple more on the Challenge Tour. I know how volatile this game can be and anything can happen. All I can do is keep my head up and look forward into the future with a positive outlook, manage my body and mind as best I can and try and execute each shot to the best of my ability. I’m looking forward to the test ahead this week and the rest of this year. I will keep fighting.
As always, thank you for all the support.
